Mechanism of Action (Pharmacodynamics)

Indications
Post-Exposure Prophylaxis: Given following needlestick injuries, contact with infected blood, or sexual contact with an HBsAg-positive individual.
Perinatal Prevention: Administered to newborns born to mothers infected with Hepatitis B.
Liver Transplant: Used to prevent the reinfection of the transplanted liver in HBV patients.
Dosage & Administration
Dosing: The 100 IU dose is generally prescribed for infants or children, while higher strengths (e.g., 200 IU to 1000 IU+) may be required for adults depending on the exposure source and body weight.
Timing: For maximum efficacy, it must be administered as soon as possible after exposure, ideally within 24 to 48 hours.
Storage: Must be refrigerated at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C and should not be frozen.
